Piceance Basin Mesaverde anomalous self-potential response: Identification of capillary seals in a basin-centered gas accumulation

Wells in the Piceance Basin show anomalous large-magnitude (up to 200 millivolts), large-interval (greater than 2000 ft (610 m)) self-potential (SP) log responses in the Mesaverde gas producing interval that can be best explained by electrokinetic potential resulting from water flow towards producing Mesaverde wells.

Geologically Constrained Electrofacies Classification of Fluvial Deposits: An Example from the Cretaceous Mesaverde Group, Uinta and Piceance Basins

Statistical classification methods consisting of the k-nearest neighbor algorithm (k-NN), a probabilistic clustering procedure (PCP), and a novel method which incorporates outcrop-based thickness criteria through the use of well-log-indicator flags are evaluated for their ability to distinguish fluvial architectural elements of the upper Mesaverde Group of the Piceance and Uinta basins as distinct electrofacies classes.

The Snowmass Discovery: A Story of Mammoth Proportions

In 2010, in the town of Snowmass, Colo., while working on a reservoir, a bulldozer operator discovered uncovered fossil bones that turned out to belong to a young female mammoth. When all was said and done, more than 5,400 bones of mammoths, mastodons and other ice age animals were discovered at the site.
