Carbonate Sediments and their Diagenesis

Bathurst, R. G. C.

This classic book is the Rosetta Stone of carbonate geology. Its chapters covered, in detail, the entire field of carbonates: sediments, depositional environments, geochemistry, and diagenesis. Bathurst's monumental synthesis came during a time often termed the Golden Age of carbonate research.

Bathurst brought together the critical thinking of countless sedimentologists, petrologists, field geologists and geochemists into a comprehensive entity. This book introduced an entire generation of geologists to the complexities of carbonate geology and spawned an explosion of applied carbonate research that exponentially advanced the exploration and exploitation of carbonate reservoirs. Its influence can be seen today in practically every aspect of carbonate research. While different in focus and scope, one cannot differentiate between Wilson's and Bathurst's impact on carbonate geology, both books must be on the bookshelf.
