The Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), held annually each spring in Houston, is probably the largest E&P convention most of our members have as an opportunity to attend -- and to benefit from in more than one way. I hope to see you there.

There is a saying I have heard, that "growing old is mandatory, but growing up is optional."

On a recent visit to a bookstore I came across a book titled 1001 Dumbest Things Ever Said. After reading several of the quotes, I realized that some of the worst statements are from educated individuals, many of whom hold top government positions.

The realm of our seismic data typically has been horizontal distance and vertical time -- but now we are flooded with seismic data that is displayed in distance and depth. Seismic velocities originally came to us as a by-product of the process of stacking the data.

In response to the needs expressed by members and based on AAPG's new strategic plan, AAPG is establishing a new plan of support for both the Sections and Regions.

Perhaps a review -- and awareness -- of the past may make us better geologists in the future.
