AAPG is participating in the GEODE program and supports these research efforts. Project Innerspace (PI) and the Society of Petroleum Engineers International (SPE) have formed a consortium to support the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Geothermal Technologies Office’s (GTO) Geothermal Energy from Oil and gas Demonstrated Engineering (GEODE) initiative to expand U.S. geothermal energy deployment. The information collected from this Universities Geothermal Capability Analysis RFI will be merged into a searchable online database powered by AI. This database aims to better understand the geothermal and oil and gas capabilities of geology / engineering universities to improve geothermal energy deployment in the U.S. By better understanding these capabilities, GEODE aims to address pain points in next-generation geothermal deployment that can be solved by technology or methodology. Examples of such are challenges related to drilling or capital expenditure costs, high-temperature drilling tools and drilling tool reliability, thermal energy conversion efficiency, and surface modeling.
