The Imperial Barrel Award program has just added a new Special Interest Group (SIG) for IBA alumni. Two new co-chairs have been named to lead the group, Candice Pettijohn and Jensen Angelloz.

Candice Pettijohn is a geologist with ConocoPhillips. She interned at Concho in the summer of 2013, was hired as a geologist in 2014 and, due to the recent merger, now works for ConocoPhillips. Pettijohn participated in the Imperial Barrel Award program with Louisiana State University in 2013 before graduating with her master’s in geoscience in 2014. She received her bachelor’s in geoscience from the University of Alaska Anchorage in 2011.

Pettijohn has worked on both the Northwest Shelf and Delaware Basin East asset teams as well as participating in the company’s university geoscience recruiting program. Participating in the Imperial Barrel Award was a very important milestone in her career, and she has seen first-hand the value the program brings to young geoscientists who are pursuing a career in petroleum.

Jensen Angelloz is a consulting geologist, landman and cartographer following graduation from Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA) with his master’s in geology in 2017. He participated in the Imperial Barrel Award program with SFA in 2016 as the team’s lead. Angelloz earned his bachelor’s in geology and GIS from Sam Houston State University (SHSU) in 2014.

As a consultant, Angelloz has worked in the Permian and Anadarko Basins and the Haynesville and Austin Chalk plays. He also has a long record of volunteering in the AAPG and holding office in the SHSU and SFA student chapters as the inaugural treasurer and president, respectively. Since that time, he has contributed as sub-committee chairs for the Houston Student Expo and IBA committees. He believes giving back and mentoring aspiring geoscientists is the responsible path for growing interest in the petroleum industry and the AAPG.
