Speaker: Pasquale (PV) Scaturro, President/Geophysicist, Exploration Specialists Solitaire, Namibia

In 2003-2004 Geophysicist PV Scaturro organized and led the historic 114-day journey down the entire length of the Blue Nile and Nile Rivers, a distance of 3,260 miles (5,250 kms). The Nile First Descent Expedition was the first ever descent of the Blue Nile and Nile River from its source high in the mountains of Ethiopia to the Mediterranean Sea. The historical expedition is featured in the award winning IMAX film Mystery of the Nile, the third highest grossing large format film in history. The expedition had to overcome enormous hurdles - suicidal rapids, crocodile attacks, malaria, severe sandstorms, gunfire from bandits and arrests by local militia. For over a hundred years explorers had attempted to descend the Blue Nile, but none had succeeded.

Pasquale (PV) Scaturro is a geologist and geophysicist with 38 years of experience in worldwide oil and gas exploration and development. Pasquale started his career with Amoco Production Company before holding a series of positions with McMoRan Oil and Gas, Seismic Specialists, Tricon Geophysics, Frontera Resources and Hydrocarb Energy Corporation. He has explored for oil and gas in North and South America, Africa, the Middle East and the former Soviet Union.

Pasquale has led major and historical expeditions in high altitude mountaineering including three expeditions to Everest. In 2001 he conceived, organized, and led the National Federation of the Blind 2001 Everest Expedition, in which blind climber Erik Weihenmayer reached the summit. Time Magazine called it one of the most successful Mt. Everest expeditions in history. Pasquale has also led multiple descents of major world-class rivers including the Bio Bio in Chile, Omo and Zambezi in Africa. He has appeared on the Today Show, NBC Nightly News, ESPN, Turner Television, the History Channel, National Public Radio, MacGillivray Freeman Films and IMAX Theaters worldwide, A&E, MSNBC and MSN and has been featured in Time Magazine, Outside Magazine, National Geographic Adventure, the LA Times and many more.
