What is your background?
Rachael Moreland My background is in Product Management and Technology Strategy within the Energy & Tech spaces. I have over a decade of experience leading cross-functional teams to develop, partner, and bring to market successful products that drive business growth. I pride myself on having a proven track record of identifying and capitalizing on market opportunities, developing, and implementing product vision and strategy, and delivering results in fast-paced, high-tech environments. I also specialize in creating product strategies that expand existing business into new markets.
I hold degrees in Geoscience and Neuroscience from Hanover College (IN). Outside of work, I participate in multiple mentoring programs supporting Women and DEI in Tech.
How did you become interested in innovation and new directions in the industry?
I am an entrepreneur by heart and an innovator by nature, I'm constantly looking at existing processes and technologies and where we can make improvements or take ourselves beyond how we are getting the job done today. I believe that with all of the data and the technical evolution posed by our industry, it is truly an innovation frontier. This provides a lot of diverse opportunities to those who are looking to apply new solutions to traditional problems.
Please describe a new technology or process that you are involved with.
A new process that I have gravitated towards in my career has been evolving traditional workflows in the Upstream Energy and Energy Technology space from lengthy data driven analysis, to answers based analytics.
Who will benefit from it?
I truly believe that getting people to answers quicker and cutting through the noise in data can pose a benefit to any business and multiple facets of those businesses in our industry, from subsurface, to supply chain.
Where will the technology or process be in a year? three years? five years?
I think with the evolution of AI and ML in the workplace over the past few years and the continual work we have done in getting data into good shape for analytics and AI/ML models will pay off in the long run. I see us looking towards more automation, and a business that focusses on validating answers vs. spending time validating assumptions. Today, there is still a lot of guesswork involved in certain aspects of our industry…a lot of it is science, but there is some that is sheer luck. I see us getting to more data driven decisions at the end of the day.
What makes you optimistic about the future?
The future is truly limitless with the opportunity we have in the Energy Technology space. We keep getting more efficient, and examining sustainable practices and the ability to better the quality of human life with easy access to energy will continue to evolve, providing so much opportunity to do great things.
