The second edition of the AAPG Maximizing Asset Value geosciences technology workshop took place virtually from 22-25 February 2021. This year we welcomed 72 attendees from 18 different companies and 12 different countries.
The opening of the event on the 22nd morning included an inaugural keynote address delivered by Ahmed Hakami, Manager, Emerging Unconventional Assets Department, Saudi Aramco and was followed by two technical presentations and an e-poster presentation summary session.
In total, this 4 day virtual workshop included 14 oral presentations, 3 e-poster presentations, 4 breakout sessions and a virtual field trip that took place on the final day.
The event drove discussions around the integration processes between geoscience, engineering, and technology deployment through examining the industry’s case studies across multiple disciplines. The workshop also highlighted the improvements made in the topic over the last three years across both conventional and unconventional field development.
The workshop covered the following topics:
- Subsurface to Surface Collaborative Planning and Integration
- Field Optimization Lessons Applied to Conventional and Unconventional Fields
- Exploring New Fields Versus Optimizing Existing Fields, a Cost Driven Discussion
- Workflow and Technologies Advancement
Workshop participants were invited and encouraged to join the virtual field trip which took place on the final afternoon. The virtual field trip on “Late Cretaceous Siliciclastics of Al Khawd Formation, Sultanate of Oman” was sponsored by Tracs International and organized by the Geological Society of Oman (GSO). The trip which was led by Husam Al Rawahi and moderated by Abdulmunaim Al Zakwani, focused on the erosion and sedimentation patterns in the period following ophiolite obduction and the ophiolite sequence in Muscat.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank and recognize the workshop’s Committee for all their efforts and support and to thank our sponsors, Saudi Aramco as the Gold Sponsor and TRACS as the Field Trip Sponsor. A big thanks also to all the presenters and attendees. Thank you all for your support and commitment and for making this great edition possible.
