The second edition of AAPG’s Structural Styles of the Middle East GTW took place from 9-11 December 2019 at the Sundus Rotana Hotel in Muscat, Oman. The workshop attracted 87 attendees from 23 different companies and 11 different countries.

The first day of the workshop included welcome remarks by Salim Mahrouqi, AAPG Middle East Past President (2017-2019) which was followed by two technical keynote address’, one by Simone Stewart, Saudi Aramco on ‘Structural Characteristics of Fault-Bound Precambrian to Paleozoic Basins of Saudi Arabia’ and another by Pascal Richard, Shell on ‘Technical Introduction on ‘Multi-Scale Structural Styles in the Middle East: How Sandbox Models have Helped Structural Style Understanding’.

The workshop included numerous presentations that covered a large variety of topics related to structural styles in the Middle East, with a total of 16 technical presentations, 6 poster presentations and 4 breakout sessions. The workshop gave attendees the opportunity to gain more of an understanding of the multiple regional tectonic phases and of other major controlling parameters on the occurrence of major structural styles.

We would like to take this opportunity to express our profound gratitude to the workshop committee members for their hard work and continuous efforts. We would also like to thank our Platinum Sponsor, PDO for their generous contribution. Finally, we would like to thank all the presenters and attendees for helping make this workshop possible. The workshop was a great success and we thoroughly enjoyed sharing the experience with you all.
