American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG)

On 28 October, the geoscience community gathered to initiate an inspiring third edition of the Siliciclastic Reservoirs of the Middle East workshop. The event was, once again, a great success, and we hope all those who participated enjoyed it as much as we did.

The event took place from 28-30 October 2019 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel OCEC, Muscat, Oman and attracted 84 attendees from 26 different companies and 15 different countries.

The workshop kicked off on the 28th morning with welcome remarks by Yasir Al Hajri, AAPG Middle East President Elect (2019-2021) followed by an inaugural keynote speech delivered by Mark Hollanders, Chief Geologist, PDO and a technical keynote address by Mike Simmons, Technology Fellow, Halliburton on “Understanding Siliciclastic Input into Mesozoic Depositional Systems of the Arabian Plate: An Earth Systems Science Approach”.

This three-day workshop also included 19 oral presentations, 12 poster presentations and a core display by PDO and Masirah Oil LLC, where expert geologists were on hand to explain the sedimentary features and reservoir characteristics and give an overview of how these new plays are being appraised.

The event was an opportunity for attendees to receive up-to-date knowledge about clastic reservoir characterization, exposure to regional case studies and be introduced to innovative technologies utilized to explore and develop these important reservoirs.

We would like to take this opportunity to express our most sincere thanks and appreciation to the committee members for their support and for ensuring the success of this event. We would also like to thank our amazing sponsors: PDO as the Platinum Sponsor, Shell as our Gold Sponsor and Total as our Silver sponsor - we greatly appreciate your generous contribution. And finally, thanks to all the presenters and attendees for making this event a genuine success. We hope to see you all at the next edition!
