American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG)

The AAPG "Digital Subsurface Transformation” GTW took place on 7 – 8 May 2018 at the Address Hotel – Dubai Mall, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. 54 attendees from 18 different companies and 8 different countries attended the 2 day event which consisted of technical presentations, panel sessions, breakout sessions and a poster presentation. The workshop focused on data science advances and how they could change the traditional exploration methods and the upstream oil and gas business in general. It also served as the rendezvous for the technology sector and the oil and gas operators.

The first day opened with an inaugural keynote speech delivered by Abdallah Al-Eidi, Saudi Aramco followed by two keynote speeches by Samir El Masri, Edu Plat and Oscar Abbink, IHS Markit.

The workshop included the following technical sessions:

  • Session 1: Data Challenges that Subsurface Faces
  • Session 2: Data Driven Solutions from Other Industries
  • Session 3: Data Solutions for the Subsurface
  • Session 4: Lessons Learned from Data Driven Initiatives in Subsurface

We would like to take this opportunity to express our most sincere gratitude to our sponsors, Saudi Aramco as the Platinum Sponsor and Intel as the Coffee Break Sponsor. Thank you all for support without which the workshop would not have been possible.
