The almost-pure quartz–cemented Fontainebleau Formation (Paris Basin, France) sandstones are known to preserve their porosity because of microcrystalline quartz coatings. Here, we use nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques, petrography, scanning electron microscopy, porosity and permeability measurements, hysteresis, and mercury injection capillary pressure curves to identify and analyze their porosity structure.

After three decades of research and hydrocarbon exploration in the Nordkapp Basin (Norwegian Barents Sea), the dynamics of Mesozoic salt mobilization is still poorly understood. Both progradational loading and basement-involved extension have been proposed as triggers of salt mobilization, where the latter is most accepted.

Thermal conductivity is a major influencing factor on subsurface conductive heat transport and resulting temperature distribution, which in turn is a key parameter in basin modeling. Basin modeling studies commonly use representative literature values of thermal conductivity despite their impact on modeling results.
