Innovation can offer many solutions to the challenges that the well planning community faces, from early planning through to delivery. How people think about, behave, and respond to new technology has been found to act as a significant facilitating or blocking factor for change and technology uptake in the oil and gas industry. In this session we will hear from a range of speakers who will provide insight and advice on how to address these people barriers to improve the well planning process.

Since the first explorationists discovered the subsurface potential in Tunisia, the country’s institutions took the role of a partner rather than only a regulator. Today, one of ETAP missions is promoting exploration opportunities in Tunisia through both regional and targeted approaches, including sharing knowledge, high-quality data and best practices. ETAP commits to supporting continued drilling activity in mature areas and encouraging/incentivizing exploitation of new and emerging plays.

The Oil and Gas Authority (OGA) is the independent regulator of the UK's upstream oil and gas sector with a three-fold purpose: to regulate, influence and promote the UK oil and gas industry in order to maximise the economic recovery of the UK’s oil and gas resources (MER UK) whilst supporting the move to net zero carbon by 2050. The presentation will describe how the OGA supports the exploration of subsurface opportunities within the UK, and is taking strides to enhance investment and improve subsurface success through actions on licensing, data, prospect/store inventories, geophysical data acquisition and regional play evaluations. The presentation will also describe how the OGA is working with government and industry on the vital role that the oil and gas industry must play in the UK energy transition.

Contourites have come of age – both scientifically and economically. These deepwater sedimentary systems, driven by long-slope bottom-current processes, are a fundamental component of many continental margin successions. They are inter-bedded with and interact with down-slope systems, pelagic systems, and deep tidal processes. The contourite play clearly works – now we need to make it a primary target in future deepwater exploration.
