As the world begins to shift to a carbon neutral and sustainable future, what contribution can the geoscientist make? Beyond oil and gas exploration and production, where skills will certainly be required for decades to come, there are a number of surprising sectors in which a geoscientist could apply themselves within the energy industry.

The energy transition is part of a bigger sustainability picture involving population increase, economic growth and equality as some of the 17 partly interdependent United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). SDG number 7 specifically talks to energy – “Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all”.

Marit Brommer, director at the International Geothermal Association, and Edith Newton Wilson, President and CEO at Rock Whisperer LLC, both speakers at the AAPG Energy Transition Forum 2019, will discuss the sustainability topic In the Energy Transition, next Monday 27^th , at the AAPG Let’s Connect Series.
