APPEX Global 2016: Unlocking the MSGBC's play potential - New data are the keys to the lock

Published
American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG)

Meet Ben Sayers of TGS who is a featured speaker at the APPEX Global 2016 Conference and Exhibition in March in London, England. This talk will focus on the success and geology of the MSGBC basin.

About the Talk:

In 2014/15 the MSGBC basin was arguably the most exciting exploration area in the world. With the World’s largest play-breaking discoveries, in Senegal, of nearly a billion barrels of oil in 2014 and more than 330 MMbbls in 2015, followed up with two very large commercial gas discoveries in Mauritania. Further planned exploration and appraisal drilling in 2016 is likely to continue to provide a success story and extend the play fairways into other areas of the basin.

What are the main drivers for this success? What is the geology? What advanced geophysical techniques work? How and where will additional data help to unlock the potential?

About the Speaker:

Ben Sayers is a project developer with TGS, working in Africa, the Mediterranean and the Middle East. He is a petroleum geologist with over 10 years upstream industry experience. He has been focused on Africa for the majority of his career with recent focus on the North West Atlantic Margin.

He has an MSc in Petroleum Geoscience from Royal Holloway and a BSc in Geography & GIS from University of Greenwich; previously employed for a Moroccan-based operator Ben now works for TGS and is based in their London office.
