Machine Learning is an increasingly important tool for geoscientists. This one-day workshop demonstrates the implementation of a tailored End-to-End Upstream E & P workflow solution using Machine Learning (ML). It is intended for basic to intermediate skill levels.
I was recently asked what motivates me to volunteer for the AAPG. At first, I thought of the many benefits the AAPG has to offer. Is it the access to renowned literature and technical resources? Perhaps. Is it the chance to network and grow in a community of like-minded individuals? Definitely a deciding factor. But the more I thought about it, I realized I volunteer to make an impact.
Summer has finally arrived in Canada, and with the changing of the seasons the AAPG Canada Region prepares to welcome several new volunteers to its leadership group. Fresh faces bring fresh ideas, enthusiasm and energy and I look forward to seeing what direction this dynamic and diverse group of people take our organization.
Energy fuels the economic engine of the world. Access to secure energy—affordable, available, reliable, and sustainable—is not only vital for economic health, but also to lift the world from poverty, and to invest in the environment. Are carbon policy and poverty mutually exclusive, or does there exist an energy “radical middle” that can address the challenges of carbon and poverty, and still preserve a healthy economy?

Powerful analytics now allow geoscientists and engineers to examine a petroleum basin’s diverse resource and long-term production potential. Knowledge of the raw data, ability to formulate insightful questions, and the experience to evaluate the answers are fundamental parts of petroleum data and analytics. It is the diverse perspectives and creativity of geoscientists in concert with engineering and technological advances that ultimately can create value.
These are by far the best and the worst career decisions I have ever made. They are the best because I was able to work outdoors in some very remote locations.

Charles Sternbach’s keynote address to the CSPG and AAPG Canada Region’s monthly luncheon this week was 'The Permian Basin (Prototype Super Basins) and Other Super Basins: Discovery Thinking, Innovation and Lessons'. It was a terrific talk, presented to a great gathering.
