The award for Outstanding Overall International Student Chapter at the AAPG Annual Convention in Houston, May 2017, was again handed to Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia. They won it in 2011 as well.
Long-time member, Yusak Setiawan, paid a visit to two schools as a Visiting Geoscientist. The topic presented to 60 Geology and Geophysics students was : 'Oil and Gas Deep Water Exploration to Support National Energy Security'.
Robert Shoup presents a 4-day course in Jakarta on Interpreting and Mapping Clastic Depositional Systems. This course runs in collaboration with the Indonesian Petroleum Association, supporter of AAPG Asia Pacific's Technical Symposium on Hidden Potential in Mature Basins: Play Analogs and Best Practices'; Bandung, 13-14 September 2017.

AAPG Asia Pacific Region is very proud that one of our teams scored third placing at the 2017 AAPG International Barrel Award international finals held in Houston at the AAPG Annual Convention. They topped the region semifinals held online, with two schools garnering Honorable Mention: Institute of Technology Bandung (Indonesia) and the University of Indonesia from Jakarta. We congratulate all three teams.

The Asia Pacific Region of AAPG held a highly successful Geoscience Technology Workshop in Oamaru, New Zealand, on the topic “Influence of Volcanism and Associated Magmatic Processes on Petroleum Systems” on March 14-15. The event attracted an impressive global participation with participants from the Asia Pacific Region, Asia, the Middle East, Europe, South America and the USA.
