The Cretaceous-Paleogene basins on the West Greenland Continental Shelf is now open for licensing in an Open-Door procedure. This huge frontier area, including the onshore Nuussuaq Basin, has revealed a billion barrels potential and large structures. The Government of Greenland has initiated several new initiatives to make exploration more attractive in Greenland, including improved fiscal terms, easier data access and access to a new Whole Of Greenland resource assessment project. The new improved fiscal terms stipulate that government-take has been reduced by more than 10% as well as the government participation of the national oil company by 6,25% is no longer upheld. All released data are made easily available on an online platform at a minimum cost. The resource assessment project has utilized all available geological and geophysical data from the industry and is highlighting which of West Greenland basins that have the most promising prospectivity. The assessment estimates an accumulated total mean of 18,25 BBOE risked recoverable hydrocarbons for the West Greenland basins; split into 5,5 BBOE for the Davis Strait-Labrador Sea province, 9,1 BBOE for the Baffin Bay province and 3,65 BBOE for the Nuussuaq Basin and Disko West province. The Baffin Bay province stands out as having the largest potential of the West Greenland Shelf with a prominence of very large-sized leads. The Davis Strait-Labrador Sea province also holds a number of very sizeable leads. For the Nuussuaq Basin and Disko West province the onshore Nuussuaq Basin appears to have the greater potential.
