Course Content

The legacy of oil and gas drilling in the United States has left millions of unplugged orphaned petroleum wells dispersed across the country, many of which are actively leaking and pose hazards for new petroleum drilling in unconventional plays. We will explore the history of orphaned wells, locations of known documented wells, hazards of drilling new wells in areas with orphaned wells, and the ongoing challenges of documenting and plugging orphaned wells.
