Course Content

Development or re-development of reservoirs with multi-fractured deviated or horizontal wells (MFHW) has changed the landscape of well design and operation in the last three decades. Both on-shore and off-shore examples of MFHWs have added to the knowledge of advantages, disadvantages and necessary changes to design and operations to make these wells more efficient.

Agenda:

• Introduction – Examples of successful and un-successful Multi-Fractured Deviated Wells.
• Basics of formation and well flow that drive well orientation, spacing and stimulation.
• Pad layout and Simultaneous Operations (SYMOPS) basics.
• Well architecture: hole size, casing & coupling options, build angle, extended reach, etc.
• Cementing in vertical and horizontal wells – the good, bad and necessities for success.
• Completion and stimulation options and effect on well performance.
• Stimulation flowback, brine use and water handling and re-use.
• Artificial lift from highly deviated wells – efficiency, what works and what does not.
• Common areas of production system failures and how to prevent problems.
• Fracture driven interactions (aka “Frac Hits”); cause, effects, and recovery.
• Recompletion and repair methods.
