Course Content

This session will probe the way that work is done, both in operations and in supportive roles. Companies will discuss the typical new tasks, and also the professionals they hire to do the task, and how they work. We will also discuss specific examples of technologies being used, and how they are contributing to a safer, more efficient, and profitable endeavor.

Jim Grant, Vice President - Subsurface, Chesapeake

Jim Grant serves as Chesapeake Energy Corporation’s Vice President of Subsurface and is responsible for leading geoscience and reservoir engineering across the company’s portfolio. Mr. Grant joined Chesapeake in 2017, and helped transform the company’s subsurface team, centering its culture around commercially focused decision-making rooted in technical excellence and interdisciplinary collaboration. Mr. Grant has served in various leadership, corporate and technical roles throughout his career at Chesapeake and Anadarko, where he worked prior to joining Chesapeake.

Mr. Grant’s background spans the E&P value chain from new ventures to development. His past positions include Director of Exploration and Geoscience Technology; Exploration Manager roles spanning the South Atlantic Margin and the Asia Pacific region; and various technical roles in development and exploration. Corporate roles included Worldwide Exploration Planning Manager and Director of Investor Relations.

Mr. Grant holds a BA in geology from Hamilton College, a MS in geology from the University of Idaho and an MBA from Rice University, where he was a Jones Scholar Award recipient.

Liz Dennett, VP of Data Architecture, Wood Mackenzie

Liz Dennett is a passionate technologist with over a decade of experience using data-driven approaches to solve pressing energy challenges. She has demonstrated success pioneering novel data types, architectures, and analytics solutions through the energy value chain including new energy solutions. Liz is currently a VP of Data Architecture at Wood Mackenzie. Prior to that Liz was the Lead Solutions Architect for Energy Data Platforms at Amazon Web Services (AWS), and held various roles of increasing scope and complexity within AWS, Biota Technology, Hess Corporation, and the NASA Astrobiology Institute. Liz holds a MS and PhD in Geoscience from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has completed executive education at the Haas School of Business. Liz’s passions include building things, board games, and stubbornly refusing to believe things are “hard”.

Philippe Herve, SparkCognition

Philippe Herve joined SparkCognition as the VP of Solutions. Herve is an executive with US and international success in operations, P&L, technology, business development, marketing, sales, and client relations.

Herve’s comprehensive experience in oil and gas spans large-scale project leadership, IT, engineering, manufacturing, and operation.

Herve holds multiple patents in the field of ultrasonic and has authored many technical papers. He is a member of numerous professional organizations including the Society of Petroleum Engineers. Over the years, Mr. Herve has frequently been published in Bloomberg, Oil & Gas Journal, Journal of Petroleum Technology, World Oil, The Houston Chronicle, Drilling Contractor, and is a frequent speaker on diverse management and engineering subjects.

Herve was a late comer to the AI revolution. He only started working on Artificial Intelligence in 1985. Artificial Intelligence had already been defined 30 years earlier.

Jason Fitzgerald, Energy Freelance, Mineralware

Jason comes from a long line of Oil and Gas producers spanning three generations in North Texas. He has been in and around the industry his entire life. Born and raised in Wichita Falls, one of the original homes of Texas Oil and Gas, Jason attended Texas Christian University graduating with a degree in Finance with a concentration in Real Estate. He was also a letterman on the TCU Golf Team. Jason now resides in Fort Worth, TX.

Jason brings a unique perspective to the Energy Technology space. With a background in oil and gas operating, he leverages this knowledge on a daily basis to shape innovative technology solutions for the Energy Industry.
