New uses of sensors and integrated analytics are making it possible to dramatically improve efficiency and to change the way that work is done. The panel will discuss new directions, examples that they have observed, and how they view the road ahead.

Alex Nikulin, Aletair

Alex is the Co-founder and CEO of Aletair.
Aletair focuses its work on the emerging field of automated geophysical surveying, as well as the broad field of Energy Geophysics. In parallel to his role with the company, Alex is a co-founder of the Geophysics and Remote Sensing Research Laboratory at Binghamton University, a collaborative academic platform that brings together undergraduate and graduate researchers, faculty from multiple departments of Binghamton University, as well as multiple industry, academic, government, and NGO partners, to work on resolving critical issues facing society through innovative applications of geophysical techniques. Alex has received funding from the National Science Foundation and American Chemical Society to develop non-invasive geophysical imaging technology and published in peer-reviewed journals like Remote Sensing, The Leading Edge, the Journal of Applied Geophysics, and the Journal of Conventional Weapons Destruction, amongst others. Alex is a FAA 107 certified Remote Pilot, with expertise in UAV survey design, operations, and maintenance.

Bear Givhan, BluBird Platform, Earthview

Bear is the founder, President and CEO of Earthview and is responsible for the company’s growth, vision and direction. Bear brings a wide range of operational leadership, scientific expertise and industry specific knowledge to the Earthview team. Bear is a trained Geologist and received his degree from the University of Colorado. Bear has held leadership roles in the aviation/scientific industries as Chief Pilot for a leading methane technology company as well as Chief Pilot for an oil and gas construction company. He is an experienced pilot with commercial and instrument ratings.

David Tonner, Diversified Well Logging (DWL)

David Tonner received a Bachelors of Science in geology from the University of Nottingham in the UK and is in a Masters degree program with Stephen F Austin University. He has over 30 years’ experience in the field of surface logging measurements.

Dave spent his formative years as a mud logger and pore pressure engineer working with Geoservices in Africa and the Middle East. From there he worked with Datalog Technology in the Western Canadian sedimentary basin including the Mackenzie Delta and then lived and worked in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia Argentina, Brazil, T & T and Mexico from 1993 to 2000 .

Dave moved to Houston in 2000 and became part of Weatherford in 2008 through the acquisition of International Logging/Datalog Technology. Dave was vice president of Weatherford’s global surface logging group and oversaw global business development for Mudlogging, Rotary steerable drilling, LWD, MWD and directional drilling. Dave spent a brief period at Nabors as global director for performance drilling prior to joining Diversified Well Logging as Chief Executive Officer in late 2016.

The last 4 years have been focused on automation of drill cuttings collection, quantitative rock and gas compositions and the integration with drilling data using data science and AI. Dave has been an active member of the HGS Houston Geological Society where he chaired the Northsider’s group for over 4 years. He is also a member of SPWLA, AAPG and SPE.

Aaron Lazarus Head of Technology, Pioneer

Dr. Lazarus joined Pioneer Natural Resources(PXD) in October 2014 and is the Chief Scientist in Environmental &Sustainable Development. At PXD Dr. Lazarus has led a portfolio of programsfocused on reducing the emissions, and footprint associated with large scale unconventionaloil and gas operations. Before PXD, Dr. Lazarus was a program manager at DARPAin the Strategic Technology Office. At DARPA, Dr. Lazarus has led a number ofprograms focused on multifunctional structures and advanced energy systems. Dr.Lazarus's primary interests are ESG, innovation, and R&D strategy. Dr.Lazarus received his Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture and MarineEngineering from Webb Institute, and his Master of Science in Engineering andDoctorate in Civil Engineering from Johns Hopkins University.
