Course Content

BPX Energy is transforming the way we develop assets while generating premier economic returns. Our digital development platform integrates physical analytics with engineering and geoscience principles and subsurface data to make intelligent predictions for well performance. In this keynote, we will showcase several examples of BPX-proprietary technology and demonstrate how we leverage these tools to make data-driven investment decisions.

Bio

icon With over fifteen years of large-scale asset and portfolio management experience in the mid-continent and west Texas, Mr. Koontz brings passion, persistence, and problem solving to his approach to leadership. As one of the co-founders of Templar Energy he served as the Vice President of Engineering; responsible for Corporate Reserves, Production Accounting, Evaluation Engineering, and Asset Development and helped the management team grow the start-up company into the nation’s 27th largest natural gas producer. Prior to Templar Energy, Mr. Koontz served various roles at SandRidge Energy, including Manager of Asset Development in the Mississippian Business Unit. He has served on the Young Professionals Executive Board of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, as a Future Leader member of Oklahoma Independents Petroleum Association and as a board member for the Oklahoma Oil and Gas Association (OKOGA). Mr. Koontz earned a B.S. in Architectural Engineering from Oklahoma State University and a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Oklahoma. Mr. Koontz received national recognition in Hart Energy's 2015 Oil and Gas Investor "Top Thirty under 40" publication.

Mr. Koontz joined BP in December 2016 and has served as SVP Mid Continent Development, where he helped initiate the oil strategy conversion in the onshore business known as BPX Energy, started a new central reserves and resources team as SVP of BPX Corporate Reserves, and most recently served as SVP of Permian Development where he worked with the team to develop a multi-year, low carbon, development strategy which was solidified with the commissioning of the Grand Slam production facility in 2020.

Mr. Koontz lives in Denver with his wife Natalie and three kids, Kellan (11), Chloe (9), and Connor (5) and loves snowboarding, wake surfing, mountain biking, and tennis.
