Course Content

Safe and efficient carbon sequestration requires high quality rock characterization data.  Advanced core & cuttings digitalization allow us to rapidly collect statistically robust, AI-ready data.

This course presents the combined core and cuttings digitalization techniques of CoreDNA and QEMSCAN analysis, providing mineralogy, rock strength, grain size, porosity, pore size and permeability datasets.

The course is designed for subsurface analysts (geologists, petrophysicists, reservoir engineers) wishing to deepen their knowledge of modern core & cuttings analysis techniques with relevant application to geologic carbon sequestration.

Topics:

The course will cover the following topics:

  • Core and cuttings digital data acquisition techniques (CoreDNA and QEMSCAN) including lab demonstrations
  • Core and cuttings digital data analysis workflows: continuous core data facies identification and characterization, QEMSCAN data processing
  • Core data integration logics: core-based facies for subsampling site selection, QA-QCing plug test results, upscaling plug test results.
  • Cuttings data integration logics: lithotyping definition of bulk cuttings samples, upscaling of cuttings results
  • CCUS application case studies of advanced core & cuttings digitalization results: super-critical CO2 storage in clastic units, mineral trapping CO2 storage in volcaniclastic units.  Focus on risk reduction of expected changes to storage and seal characteristics, geomechanical properties and injection rates.

Jenny Omma
Senior Technical Advisor, Stratum Reservoir

Jenny is a Senior Technical Advisor at Stratum Reservoir, focussed on delivery of automated mineralogy (QEMSCAN) data to ccs, oil & gas and mining industries. She was previously Geological Director of Rocktype, before Rocktype was acquired by Stratum Reservoir in Q4 2023. Prior to founding Rocktype in 2014, she was a reservoir quality geologist with BP’s central services team, supporting global assets and she worked as a heavy mineral geosteering expert at wellsite on the BP Clair Field. Jenny completed a PhD on sediment provenance into Arctic Basins, based at CASP and Cambridge University.
