A panel composed of oil and gas representatives, carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) operators, geothermal operators, service company representatives and other people involved in emerging or expanding non-carbon or low carbon energy sources will examine the growth of these businesses and the application of geophysics in their projects. Some oil and gas companies and service companies are investing in additional energy sources and processes where their expertise in subsurface description and management can play a role. CCS is an area where traditional oil and gas trap qualities of reservoir and seal are still important, and geophysical tools and methods are a natural fit to finding well-located sealed reservoirs in which to emplace excess CO2 with the least risk. Geothermal energy is expanding into more moderate heat areas for power and heating applications that could be guided by geophysics. Emerging energy sources such as hydrogen, offshore wind farms, and other lower carbon footprint fuels could also require geophysical tools.
