Seismic changes are occurring in the oil and gas business. This panel will hear from a variety of industry leaders to discuss what they see coming up in the future for the geoscience professionals and energy business.

Topics that might be covered include:

  • Future educational needs
  • Importance of natural gas
  • CCUS
  • The hydrogen business
  • Emphasis on the low carbon future
  • Other energy sources (geothermal, etc.)

Elizabeth Schwarze
Vice President Global Exploration, Chevron

Liz Schwarze is Vice President of Global Exploration for Chevron Upstream, based in Houston, Texas. In this role, she is responsible for Chevron’s worldwide exploration program and chairs the company’s Global Exploration Leadership Team. She is a member of Chevron’s Upstream Leadership Team and Global Leadership Forum.

Schwarze joined Chevron in 1990 as a development geologist in the Gulf of Mexico and has subsequently held positions of increasing responsibility in the areas of exploration, reservoir management, strategy and planning, talent development and technology. She has had assignments in multiple locations in the United States, in Venezuela and in Singapore and has worked on projects around the world. During her career, she has touched assets and exploration projects in deep water, LNG, shale and tight and heavy oil.

Schwarze holds a bachelor’s degree in geology from Duke University, a master’s degree in geology from The University of Texas at Austin and a master’s in business administration from Tulane University. She is on the Corporate Advisory Board for the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, the Dean’s Advisory Board for the College of Natural Science and Mathematics at the University of Houston, the Advisory Board for the Berg-Hughes Center for Petroleum and Sedimentary Systems at Texas A&M University and the Board of Trustees for Houston Ballet.

Robert Fryklund
Chief Strategist Upstream
IHS Markit

Mr. Fryklund is vice president and chief strategist for the Upstream Energy Group at IHS Markit. He has more than 40 years of industry experience focusing on creating value for the global upstream players. As such, Bob has advised on many of the industry’s game changing deals in areas like IPO’s, acquisitions, arbitration, restructuring, and startups. His insights are sought after by global CEO’s and Boards. He spent more than 25 yrs. in Upstream executive management at majors and independents prior to joining IHSMarkit executive team.

Mr. Fryklund is an active industry leader giving back to the profession via his participation on four industry boards- IPAA (Supply and Demand Chair), AAPG (Corporate advisory Board), ARPEL and American Geological Institute (Trustee). In 2018, he received the AAPG Presidents Award for Thought Leadership. His insights regularly appear in the world’s leading press and he is a frequent keynote speaker at the industry’s leading events: World Economic Forum, CERAWeek by IHS Markit, the Offshore Technology Conference, IPAA, AAPG, EAGE, SPE and AIPN.

Mr. Fryklund holds an AB from Hamilton College, and lives in Houston, Texas.

John Ardill
Vice President – Exploration & New Ventures Frontier ExxonMobil Upstream Business Development

Dr. Ardill is the Vice President responsible for Global Frontier Exploration at ExxonMobil Upstream Business Development, located in Houston, Texas. He was born in the United Kingdom and is a United States and United Kingdom citizen, having lived and worked in the U.S., Europe, South America and the Middle East.

After receiving his B.Sc. in Geology from the University of Edinburgh in 1992 and Ph.D. Doctorate in Geology from the University of Liverpool in 1996, Dr. Ardill began his career with Exxon in London, England as a Geologist. Over the last 20 years with ExxonMobil he has held various technical, supervisory, and managerial assignments in Exploration, Development, Production, Research, Ventures and Corporate.

In his current Vice President role, Dr. Ardill is responsible for ExxonMobil’s global frontier exploration. Dr. Ardill is a fellow of the Geological Society of London and an active member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) and Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). Additionally, he serves on the British-American Business Council (BABC) Board and Bilateral Chamber Board in Houston, Texas.
