Geoscientist Workforce of the Future: Education and Re-Tooling
Interactive Panel
Tuesday, 29 September 2020, 1:15 p.m.–3:00 p.m. | Houston, Texas
These newly integrated panel sessions will feature five-minute presentations from each speaker followed by a 20-minute moderated discussion between panelists regarding the session at hand and ending with an audience participation Q&A using the chat box feature.
The careers and jobs of geoscientists are evolving. In addition to a good understanding of geoscience concepts and processes and plus foundational professional skills, the rapid change in technology, the immense increase in information readily available, and need to integrate different types of datasets requires additional competences in data-related skills. Furthermore, given the increasingly interdisciplinary nature of the geosciences, there is also a need for higher-level communication and interpersonal skills compared to past minimally-acceptable levels. What are the data, how to prepare, what to do?
