AAPG recently held its first hybrid workshop on ‘Structural Geology and Our Future - The Role of Tectonic Geoscience in Energy Transition, Focusing on the Asia-Pacific Region’ which took place from 6 -7 July 2022 at Club York Sydney and Online. The workshop attracted 71 attendees (38 in-person and 33 virtually) from 42 different companies and 14 different countries.

On the morning of 6 July, the workshop opened with an Aboriginal ‘Welcome to Country’ address , followed by a opening keynote delivered by Andre A. Coffa, Director, URO Corporation, Australia. The two-day workshop also included 30 oral presentations, 2 virtual on demand poster presentations, and a panel discussion to conclude the event on 7 July.

The program covered the below topics:

  • Metals, Mining and Energy Transition
  • Technology Supporting Exploration
  • Sequestration and Geostorage
  • Geodynamics and Regional and Plate Tectonics
  • Folds and Thrust Belts

Additionally, the event was live streamed and recorded, with videos now available on demand on the workshop website accessible only by registered attendees for up to 2 months.

We would like to take this opportunity to express our most sincere gratitude to the workshop chair Andre A. Coffa and the committee members for their hard work and support. We would also like to thank our sponsors, Kumul Petroleum (Bronze sponsor), ExxonMobil (Luncheon sponsor) and URO Corporation (Coffee break sponsor) for their generous contribution. Last, but not least, thanks to all the presenters and attendees for making this hybrid event a success. Hopefully, we look forward to welcoming you all to the next edition!
