The Many Faces of GIS: Oil and Gas Applications, New Directions, Careers

27 March, 2009
Who Should Attend
This course will be useful to geologists, geophysicists, engineers, geotechnologists and environmental managers from integrated oil companies and small businesses, and anyone else interested in learning more about GIS technologies.
Objectives

What can Geographical Information Systems (GIS) do for you? GIS is changing and it is being used in more ways than ever before. Join two GIS/geoscience experts Scott Sires and Gerry Bartz as they use information from the Teapot Dome Field in Wyoming (DOE/RMOTC program). Listen and boost your knowledge and skills. You will also find out the AAPG's GIS initiatives. CEUs available with expanded package (additional lectures, readings, quiz). Information about jobs, careers, and entrepreneurship will be covered.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Advantages of GIS in the management of Oil & Gas Operations
    • accuracy
    • remote monitoring
    • communication
  • 3D Visualization
    • reservoir characterization
    • subsurface infrastructure
  • Classifying attributes
    • producing horizons
    • road conditions
    • seismic lines
