Krishna Persad has a B. Sc. (Hons) in Geology (1966) and a Ph. D. (1970) from the University of the West Indies (Mona). He has over 45 years experience in the industry locally and internationally, during which time he has made major oil discoveries. He has come to be recognized as an industry pioneer, a successful entrepreneur and the world’s leading expert on the geology of Trinidad and Tobago. He is also the founder of both the first local onshore independent oil company and the first offshore local independent company. In addition he has contributed tremendously to the industry and to the wider society. As a result he is the recipient of numerous awards, including being named by the MOEEI/South Chamber of Industry and Commerce as one the 40 most influential persons in the Petroleum Industry in the last 100 years.

He has published extensively on the oil and gas industry of Trinidad and Tobago. His major publications include five multi-client reports compiled by him based on original research by him and his colleagues and a number of books and maps, principal of which are: 1984 Geologic Tectonic Map of Trinidad and Tobago (compiled by Krishna Persad); 1993 Field Guide Trinidad and Tobago Rock Outcrops (written by Krishna Persad and published by a KPA Group Company): 1993 Petroleum Encyclopedia of Trinidad and Tobago (co-authored with Mia Persad); 2003 Geologic Tectonic Map of Trinidad and Tobago revised version (compiled by Krishna Persad and published by a KPA Group Company); 2011 A book entitled “The Petroleum Geology and Geochemistry of Trinidad and Tobago” (compiled by Krishna Persad and published by a KPA Group Company); 2014 “Energy and Life” a personal view of the Energy Industry of Trinidad and Tobago (written by Krishna Persad and published by a KPA Group Company).

He is the founder and Honorary Member of the Geological Society of Trinidad and Tobago and is currently President. He is a visiting lecturer at UWI, St. Augustine where he lectures on how to find oil and gas.
