Abstract: Can HC basins still present some positive surprises? – E. Hillary and T. Norgay vs. R. Messner

Companies exploring for hydrocarbons should answer a “big dilemma” when they decide their future exploration strategies: explore basins and plays already explored with new techniques and concepts or explore new basins, new frontiers and new plays with concept already proved. The History of exploration of the highest mountain in the world (Himalaya) will drive the presentation and show what kind of mindset the explorers for hydrocarbons should have once the exploration strategy is decided. Two cases studies from the Mediterranean region will be described to show differences and similarities of the two exploration strategies.
