For the first time, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and Geothermal Rising are bringing together geothermal, critical minerals and gases to explore the connections between them, either in the formation of the reservoirs or reserves, or in exploring for, evaluating, and producing them.  Specifically, the conference will bring together geothermal, lithium, geologic hydrogen, helium, iodine, and more in the form of technical presentations, probing panel discussions, poster sessions, and more.

The function of the Visiting Geoscientist Program SIG is to provide college and university students worldwide a balanced picture of geosciences in the petroleum, energy minerals, and environmental industries; provide information about careers in the geosciences; present a positive image of a geoscience professional; and encourage geoscience career options for young scientists of high caliber. These goals will be achieved through direct student contact during college and university visits by active geoscientists. To maintain active status as a VG, each committee member must complete at least one visit per fiscal year. This program is funded through the generosity of the Visiting Geoscientists, their companies, the AAPG Foundation and AAPG.

The Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) Committee's mission is to develop programs for AAPG annual, sectional, regional, and international meetings, as well as lectures, short courses, and publications that will demonstrate the current CO2 Sequestration studies and projects as they are related to environmental issues and problems; to present CO2 sequestration-related subject areas and skills that may be of interest to fellow AAPG geoscientists including:

  • Carbon Dioxide Sequestration in Geological Media
  • Regional Assessment of CO2 Geological Sequestration Potential
  • Methodologies for Evaluation of Sites for Geologic Carbon Dioxide Sequestration
  • Experience and New Results from Current Geological Sequestration Projects
  • Modeling and Simulation of Carbon Dioxide Geological Sequestration
  • Monitoring Sequestration Performance
  • Economics and Regulatory Aspects of Carbon Dioxide Sequestration
