In the vast majority of basins where we explore today, petroleum migration is the most important charge-related risk. The capillary process controls migration, and we can observe the behavior in lab and geological scales. Dr. Zhiyong will use global analogs and big data to explain how capillary seals control migration and the best practice in evaluating migration risk.

Dr. Zhiyong He graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Ph.D. in Geology, focusing on basin modeling and analysis. After working as a research geologist at Atlantic Richfield for ten years, Dr. He Founded ZetaWare, Inc. in 2000, providing interactive software tools and innovative solutions for analyzing the risks associated with petroleum prospects for exploration. ZetaWare’s software tools have become the dominant industry leader. Since its debut, they have been used in some of the most important giant oil and gas field discoveries, including Jubilee, Mangala, Leviathan, Johan Sverdrup, Tortue, Orca, SNE/Par, Zohr, Liza, Zama, Dorado, and recently Venus.

In the last 20 years, Dr. He has taught over 100 training courses in the industry on practical petroleum system analysis.
