The AAPG Certificate in GeoAnalytics enables a geoscientist to utilize analytics and technologies to explore for new resources, optimize existing energy resources, capture and manage resource-related data, work with teams across disciplines (engineering, geoscientists, data scientists, financial analysts).

Sequence Stratigraphy – Basic Concepts

Sequence Stratigraphy is a method developed to support geoscientists in the geologic interpretation of subsurface data, with the objective of predict play elements presence and quality before drilling. The method can be applied to cores, well logs, seismic lines (2-D and 3-D) and outcrops and in all depositional environments. The course will review the basic terminology of surfaces, systems tracts, sequence sets and stratigraphic hierarchy, and their definitions. The method will be described and applied in training sketches and datasets to later be used to interpret subsurface data: seismic, wells and cores. The emphasis will be in the recognition and mapping of hydrocarbon play elements: reservoirs, seals and source rocks. [ More ] [ Register ]

Applied Middle East Late Palaeozoic Palynology: Solving Geological Problems

This course will cover aspects of Palaeozoic applied palynology for the Middle East – an area where palynology still has a significant impact. The course begins with a basic description of the lithology, structure and geological history of the Middle East Late Palaeozoic. It then describes some of the problems solved by palynology in sequences where seismic and logs do no provide the certainty required. It looks into the chief groups of spores and pollen in Middle Eastern Late Palaeozoic successions, spending time on around 20 of the most important single palynomorph taxa that have special stratigraphic significance for correlation and palynological characterization. Deposition and Interpretation of Fluvial Reservoirs
16–18 June 2020 | Web-Based Participation

The course will cover the full range of topics needed to identify, correlate, and interpret fluvial reservoirs and encasing non-reservoir units. Participants will gain the foundations for understanding and predicting the geometry, connectivity, and permeability trends of fluvial reservoir systems at the scale of boreholes, fields, and basins. To accomplish this, the course is subdivided into six components that each convey a specific aspect of fluvial stratigraphy and each build sequentially upon knowledge gained from the preceding components. De-Risking Unconventional Reservoir Development

Unconventional hydrocarbon reservoirs, particularly shale-oil and shale-gas, are the future of the oil industry. It took the oil industry over 160 years, since the first oil well in the USA was drilled in 1859, to master oil production from conventional hydrocarbon reservoirs. Even with that we still face some challenges in deep water drilling, completion, and production as well as enhanced oil recovery from heavy oil carbonates, tar sands, and tight gas sands. Introduction to Unconventional Geochemistry 101 Hybrid/Shale Tight Plays and Thermal EOR Projects

This course will allow beginner or intermediate professionals to provide with daily geochemical solutions to executional E&P projects from exploration to WIM/production and environmental footprints issues. The cases study covered here are under unconventional petroleum systems i.e. mainly thermal EOR and hybrid/shale plays areas. Mainly focusing on young reservoir and production geochemistry techniques disciplines. Each module objective will be achieved through challenging interactive exercises at the end of it.
