The 2019 AAPG / EMD Unconventional Research Group Meeting

Tuesday May 21, 2019
7:15 pm – 9 pm
Room 214 A in the San Antonio Convention Center.
It is on the Meeting Room level of the convention center.

This year we are focusing on how much petroleum comes from come from outside the landing zone / reservoir (and the implications for inventory, spacing, etc.). The first three talks address this issue as well as the problems associated with geochemical techniques that attempt to quantify out-of-zone flow. Alton Brown will follow with a talk that builds on last year’s conversation about pressure generation during petroleum generation and explusion.

Lastly, Alton Brown will also share a technique he has been using to more precisely estimate transformation ratio in source rocks:

  • Faye Liu, RevoChem: Examples of Out of Zone production and Challenges of Production Geochemistry in Unconventional Reservoirs
  • Catie Donahue, Geomark: Pitfalls of core extracts for use as “end-member” petroleum samples
  • Alan Kornacki, Weatherford: Techniques to help correlate Core Extracts and Produced Oil
  • Alton Brown: What drives expulsion from Source Rocks? Generation of pressure from petroleum generation -- how much is really needed to drive expulsion?
  • Alton Brown: Transformation Ratio (TR) vs. Tmax-VRo equivalent for maturity estimation in oil-window source rocks

All talks are 5-10 minutes maximum with massive amounts of thrilling discussion. The room will have a cash bar in the back. All people are welcome to attend. We look forward to seeing you in San Antonio!
