The AAPG Latin America and Caribbean Region hosted yet another successful Geosciences Technology Workshop (GTW) in Mexico City on March 6-7.

GTW Mexico 2019, Unlocking Mexico’s Offshore Potential, included 17 presentations and 10 posters from 14 organizations. Technical themes included Understanding Mexico’s Offshore Basins; Exploration, Appraisal and Development for both Deep Water and Shallow Water; Enabling Technologies for Offshore Operations and Tools & Technologies to Optimize Exploration and Production.

The workshop also included two panel discussions Potential and Challenges for Unconventional Exploration in Mexico and Best Practices and Lessons Learned in Today’s Mexican Petroleum Industry.

The 138 event attendees came from 8 countries and represented 52 companies and 4 universities.

While in Mexico City, AAPG organized two additional activities to reach students and young professionals in the area. The Student-Professional Networking Reception held on March 6 allowed students from the UNAM and IPN universities to interact with technical professionals and managers attending the GTW. More than 100 students and young professionals attended the Unconventional Resources Panel Discussion: Perspectives Based on Experience held the evening of March 7.

The AAPG LACR thanks the organizing committee, session chairs and volunteers for all their hard work and dedication that made the event a success.

The Region will host two additional Geoscience Technology Workshops in 2020, Solutions for Appraisal and Development of Onshore and Offshore Fields in Rio de Janiero on 13-14 June and Recent Discoveries and Exploration and Development Opportunities in the Guiana Basin in Paramaribo on 5-7 November.
