In October 2018 the AAPG Latin America and Caribbean Region held its first-ever joint event with the SPE Colombia Section. The workshop, Optimizing Geosciences and Engineering to Maximize Colombia’s Offshore Potential, included high profile speakers and state-of-the-art technical presentations.

- 5 October – Ivan Olaya delivered the short course “Sequence Stratigraphy in Continental and Marine Sediments” at EAFIT University in Medellin, Colombia.33 students and 2 professionals attended
- 19 October – Guilherme Arruda Sowek delivered the lecture “Applying Oil and Gas Prospects to Exploration,” at UFPR in Brazil. 14 people attended.

- 26 October – Victor Vega delivered the lecture “Regional trends in current industry environment and role of alternative energies” at the University of Costa Rica in San José. 20-25 students and professors attended.
- 30 October – German Bayona delivered the talk "Jurassic and Middle Eocene angular unconformities in the sedimentary record and their implications in oil industry" at UNAL Bogota in Colombia. 35 students attended.
Earth Science Week
Brazil
- 18 October – Seven YP Brazil chapter members presented a talk about sedimentary rocks to high school students. 13 students attended
- 30 October – Priscila Amaral visited the Natural History Museum of Taubaté to investigate the potential for organizing future Earth Science Week activities.
Colombia
- October 16-17 – Student Chapters from Universidad Industrial de Santander in Bucaramanga, Colombia held an Earth Science Week event involving 300 high school students. The event provided the opportunity to talk about the geology of the region, the importance of geologists to sustainable development as well as space to discuss energy, water and geohazards. The event was sponsored by the Colombian Geological Society and supported by the Geological Mapping Group from the Colombian Geological Survey.
Mexico
- 12 October – Instituto Politécnico Nacional – sent an announcement about Earth Sciences Week to students interested in being involved in planning the event. Recruited 20 volunteers.
- 11/17/29 October – Chapter held Earth Science Week Planning meetings at Sanborn and the UNAM Geology Museum, and the UNAM Geoscience Mobile Laboratory
Peru
- 24 October - Earth Science Week held at Santa Clara High School. 40 students attended.

Trinidad & Tobago
- 6 October – Amrit Cooblal (AAPG YPTT President) & Therese Steele taught 30 students an Introduction to Earth Sciences for the STEM program in San Fernando Modern High School. The students learned how are rocks are formed and learned about rock properties, deposition and petroleum systems.

YP Chapters
Bolivia
- 14 October – Chapter launched its first geophotography contest, “CaptureGeo Bolivia 2018.” Will collect photos, and winning entries will be incorporated into a 2019 calendar and agenda.
- 20 October –Oscar Irazaba guided a visit to the UNAM Geology Museum located in Mexico City for representatives of YP Bolivia, YP Mexico and student chapters from UNAM and IPN. Irazaba presented the museum and a private collection of minerals called “Dr. Romero”. 7 people attended
- 23 October – Chapter produced its third YP Bolivia Chapter Bulletin, featuring 16 pages of information about chapter activities. Also included interviews with a senior geologist and a young professional.
- 23 October – Held meeting with the Universidad Autónoma Tomás Frías (UATF) in Potosí to talk about forming an AAPG student chapter. Meeting was held in Oruro during the XXIII Bolivian Geological Congress. 2 professors and 13 students attended

Trinidad & Tobago

- 22 October – The AAPG YPTT in collaboration with donors raised $1600 USD to aid and assist the victims of the devastating flooding across Northern Trinidad. The money was used to purchase hampers containing a variety of items ranging from food items, toiletries, water, cleaning supplies and sandwiches. These hampers were distributed to over 30 homes in the areas of St. Helena and Kelly Village, Caroni. Chapter leaders Amrit Cooblal and Tanuja Balkeran and 10 volunteers coordinated the effort.
