As promised AAPG Africa YPs based in Port Harcourt, Nigeria had the Port Harcourt edition of the Young Profesionals’ Social hangout on 29th May 2017 at the Shell Club in Port Harcourt.
As promised AAPG Africa YPs based in Port Harcourt, Nigeria had the Port Harcourt edition of the Young Profesionals’ Social hangout on 29th May 2017 at the Shell Club in Port Harcourt.
The idea of the Social Hangout was to provide a social forum for Young professionals to gather, network and learn through team building and sporting activities. About 50 Young professionals attended the event.
In addition to the sporting and team building activities, there was a 45minute interactive discussion panel where senior Geoscience professionals discussed and answered questions around the Topic: Effective Networking - An Essential Tool For Professional Development. The introduction of SIGs and TIGs at AAPG were discussed and the benefits of joining the AAPG YP SIG were highlighted.
The YP group also visited the Holy Rosary girls secondary school - a Catholic High School for girls in a suburb of Port Harcourt. The purpose of the visit was to introduce the Geosciences as a career option to the young students.
