Announcing AAPG Europe Region IBA Winners

 

18 teams from all of Europe convened last week in Prague to compete for the AAPG Imperial Barrel Award for 2017. Winners will go to the Annual Convention in Houston this April to compete for the Grand Prize.

AAPG Europe Region is proud to announce the winning team of the AAPG Imperial Barrel Awards 2017

1st Place has been awarded to Eotvos Lorand University from Hungary, with team members Reka Bottyan, Daniel Nyiri, Jozsef Albirt, Ferenc Andras Csurgai and Kristof Hives, accompanied by their Faculty Advisor, Lilla Tokes.

The competition took place last week in the hotel Don Giovanni in Prague, where 18 teams from all over Europe met to present their results of 8 weeks of intense work.

The jury, formed by 9 industry experts , Said Al-Hajri – Saudi Aramco, Jan Baur – Total, Gideon Lopes Cardozo – Shell, Jaromir Probulski – PGNiG, Neil Ritson – LGO Energy, Josh Springett – Shell, Gabor Vakarcs – MOL, Douwe Van Der Meer – Nexen and Jon Wardell – Nexen had the difficult decision to choose the best presentation. And they all agreed that the increase in standards overall from the 18 teams made it a very difficult task to choose the winners.

Eotvos Lorand University, who have been competing in the competition since 2011 won the $5000 prize and took the Vlasta Dvorakova Memorial Trophy back to Budapest and will now go to the AAPG IBA Finals in Houston in April to compete against another 11 teams who are winners of the other AAPG Region and Sections.
