Hence, the creation of the “Geological Theory and Technological Innovation: Youth Academic Forum,” an international academic forum that brings together science, innovation and research.

Exploring for mineral and petroleum resources — and developing them more efficiently — have become urgent in a world characterized by rapid societal change and conflict between supply and demand. Hence, the creation of the “Geological Theory and Technological Innovation: Youth Academic Forum,” an international academic forum that brings together science, innovation and research.

The forum is aimed at sharing research results, new thoughts, ideas, methods and areas. This helps in promoting international geological theory, technology and applications, by discussing in-depth and comprehensive developments, with the goal of break-through geological exploration.

The forum was initiated and supported by the Chinese Geological Society, AAPG and several world-renowned experts. It was organized by Southwest Petroleum University for its inaugural event in Chengdu, from Nov. 13-15, 2015.

As a joint endeavor unprecedented in China, the forum provided a communication and learning platform for geoscientists – especially young professionals. Through oral presentations, posters, and publications, the event focused on developing innovation abilities and recognizing outstanding achievements.

A total of 157 abstracts and 80 oral reports were presented.
