Awali Field Visit*

Awali Field was the first oil field to be discovered in the Arabian Peninsula, back in 1932. Located 30 km south of Manama, the field continues to be the economic powerhouse of Bahrain. The half-day field visit will cover outcrops around Jebel Al Dhukhan, the surface expression of the Bahrain anticline, where Eocene Dammam and Rus formations are exposed. These are a part of the conspicuous carbonate rimrock in the center of the island that are surrounded by a ring of younger Miocene and Quaternary formations on the periphery. The visit will give participants an overview of the facies architecture, diagenetic processes and structural features present on the field. It will also cover the present day oil and gas development facilities in Awali Field and the Bapco Oil Museum. The field visit will be followed by dinner at Bapco Club.
