Joe Staffurth is a geologist with over 30 years in the Oil and Gas Industry: 5 years with Exxon as exploration and development geologist; he moved to Petrofina in 1986 and held various management roles including Exploration Manager in the UK and Director of Exploration in Italy.

He set up his own business, JSI Services, in 2000 providing a summary and analysis of international exploration deals covering all parts of the world except North America. Since 2000 he has provided a technical review of over 4000 farm outs in 131 different countries and some of these data provide the background for his talk.

Abstract: Farmout Market Update (Africa – Atlantic) “Where are the Deals Being Done?

This talk reviews the current state of the exploration deal making market and looks at the South Atlantic in detail comparing the success of deal making and farm in drilling over the last 5 years in Africa with that in South America. From the JSI Global Upstream Deals (GUD) database trends in deal terms, costs and drilling outcomes will be discussed.
