The AAPG DPA Playmaker Forum debuted in Canada on March 31 through collaboration among AAPG, the AAPG Division of Professional Affairs and the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists (CSPG). Over 80 professionals from across the Region attended the 2015 Canadian Playmaker Forum, held at the Hyatt Regency Calgary. The DPA Playmaker model focuses on the commercial and scientific/technical, elements, required to successfully move a play from an idea, to a lease sale to discovery.

The forums technical program spanned four sessions with 12 presentations. Sessions covered The Art of Exploration and Professionalism, Prospecting Workflows- Understanding and Promoting Prospects, Recent Discoveries- Case Histories and Learnings, and ended with a look to the future with Emerging Plays and Technology Advancements.

The talks on discoveries were particularly well received. Many responded that Steve Sonnenberg’s keynote luncheon on "The Giant continuous oil accumulation in the Bakken Petroleum System: observations based upon the first 10,000 wells" was a special part of the program.
