How can AAPG Education courses help you develop your skills and competencies?

The first few years after college can be a big shock. While it is exciting to work with a team, and the pace of drilling and new projects can be exhiliarating, after a year or so, you may start to feel that you’re starting to become a bit isolated.

Applying knowledge or a skill to real life (or a real-life situation) is a great way to achieve deeper learning. You’re building on prior knowledge and you’re making connections between the skills / knowledge and your goals / problem at hand.

When you think of the best way to learn about the newest technology, what do you think of? Chances are, the first thing you’ll do is to engage in informal e-learning, which is to say that you’ll do a Google search and read articles, white papers, advertising, customer testimonials, and commercial promotions in order to familiarize yourself.

Just because that field is mature doesn’t mean it’s out of gas/oil! A case in point is the Los Angeles Basin, a prolific producer in its day, and now in need of new technologies and geological evaluation to determine just how to recover the oil that had been left behind.
