A magic moment for me happened last year at the Division of Professional Affairs Heritage Luncheon at ACE in Houston. An actor portraying Wallace Pratt read from Pratt’s writing and told a large packed room that “Everything is possible, anything is possible.” In that time and place we believed.

As ACE drew to a close, everyone – from our organizing committee to our staff – took great pride in delivering an excellent event for everyone who attended. There is joy in success, and perhaps a bit of sorrow that after all that effort, it’s over so soon.

It had been a long and arduous journey. A journey of a thousand miles and more from the banks of the Mississippi across the grasslands and the badlands of the North American continent. By horse and by wagon they traveled. Most, however, made the journey on foot, step by step, pushing their worldly possessions ahead of them on primitive handcarts – a back- breaking feat of stamina and persistence..

As the world heads toward what could be a significant shortfall in energy supply relative to demand, it is more important than ever for our industry to help stakeholders understand the contribution of the hydrocarbon sector in balancing that energy equation. To do that, the industry needs individuals who can find, exploit, and appropriately assess reserves and resources. The AAPG DPA – SPE OGRC Petroleum Reserves and Resources Forum will help decision makers better understand the energy resource picture, and help interpreters and investors make more accurate reserve and resource assessments.
