Join the Petroleum Systems Technical Interest Group (TIG) for the next session of the AAPG Petroleum Systems Webinar Series, "Basin Modeling of Thermicity and Diachronism of South Atlantic Rifted Margin: An Example from the Presalt of Brazil", on Wednesday, 4 May 2022, 8:00 AM (CST). Rifted margins contain prolific petroleum systems due to their unique crustal evolution, which frequently causes very favorable combinations of source rock deposition, heat flow evolution, and structural/stratigraphic trap configuration. Structural restoration and basin modeling help understand observed geometries and thermal data, suggesting a strong diachronism between heat flow and structuring/faulting. These concepts and their implications are highlighted with an example from the pre-salt basins in offshore Brazil.

Due to Hurricane Laura’s landfall and severe weather conditions affecting panelists and attendees located on the US Gulf Coast, AAPG and EPF have postponed the Energy Opportunities Forum on Carbon Capture and Storage originally set for August 27. Please plan to join us to enjoy the same content at the same time on Thursday, 10 September. Experts from industry, government and academia discuss the environmental, economic and societal implications of Carbon Capture Use and Storage (CCUS), a technology designed to reduce CO2 emissions across the energy system. Panelists from North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific share global best practices and discuss the benefits that CCUS brings both to the environment and to companies who include the technology in their portfolio.

In a world moving to net-zero emissions during the COVID-driven oil price collapse, there remain important scientific and business opportunities for geoscientists, particularly those with expertise in stratigraphy, sedimentology, reservoir geology and hydrocarbon production. In this webinar, Dr. Julio Friedmann, senior research scholar, Center on Global Energy Policy, Columbia University discusses the challenges this community faces which are not scientific or technical, but rather involve shifts in business model, policy and global market trends. Webinar presented via Zoom on 11 December 2020 at 11:30 am CST (UTC-6).
