There is no doubt that the fifth edition of the Unconventional Resources Technology Conference (URTeC) held, 24-26 July 2017 in Austin, Texas was an overwhelming success. With the industry beginning to recover from a long downturn and the resulting stranglehold on unconventional reservoirs, the timing of this premier meeting on unconventional resource technology couldn’t have been better.

Helping all our members add to the global energy supply is AAPG’s prime goal and will be for a very long time. Research shows that we have underestimated petroleum systems. Combine that with our ever-improving ability to extract energy sources from nano-scale spaces, and we have an energy revolution.

It’s widely known that refracturing a horizontal well can help to reduce the interaction between so-called parent and child wells by causing a high stress area around the refractured wells and diverting child well fractures away from the parent well.

As the world heads toward what could be a significant shortfall in energy supply relative to demand, it is more important than ever for our industry to help stakeholders understand the contribution of the hydrocarbon sector in balancing that energy equation. To do that, the industry needs individuals who can find, exploit, and appropriately assess reserves and resources. The AAPG DPA – SPE OGRC Petroleum Reserves and Resources Forum will help decision makers better understand the energy resource picture, and help interpreters and investors make more accurate reserve and resource assessments.
