Knowing how to speak the language of geoscience is one thing; fluency in petroleum geoscience as a profession is another. Fortunately, AAPG has a resource to improve professional proficiency and it’s an acronym every Member should know: DPA.

Now that my term is two-thirds over, it seems an appropriate time for a brief summary of the current state of the Division: what it has accomplished and what accomplishments are planned for the next four months.

Last year, the extraordinarily high quality of the technical program was the talk of the AAPG Annual Convention and Exhibition in Calgary, and this was at an ACE with plenty of high points to talk about. The technical program for the 2017 ACE in Houston promises to be even better than last year’s.

As the world heads toward what could be a significant shortfall in energy supply relative to demand, it is more important than ever for our industry to help stakeholders understand the contribution of the hydrocarbon sector in balancing that energy equation. To do that, the industry needs individuals who can find, exploit, and appropriately assess reserves and resources. The AAPG DPA – SPE OGRC Petroleum Reserves and Resources Forum will help decision makers better understand the energy resource picture, and help interpreters and investors make more accurate reserve and resource assessments.
