Some choose to start in their local affiliated society, working on committees and holding offices within them. Others get involved through leadership and organizing events within the sections and regions. These are the grassroots of our membership, and AAPG leadership is working to strengthen these roots.

Latin America & Caribbean Region Report September 2018

AAPG had a strong presence at regional events in September, with stands at the Mexican Petroleum Congress in Acapulco, the Peruvian Geological Congress in Lima and volunteer support at Rio Oil & Gas in Rio de Janeiro.

Robert Shoup gives a talk at Institute Technology Bandung

Following the very successful Bandung Technical Symposium (13-14 September 2017), several of our AAPG Region members were able to pay visits to the Institute of Technology in Bandung. AAPG Region Vice President Mark Tingay and Region Delegate John Kaldi were there teaching. Bob Shoup, Region Delegate and past-chair of the AAPG House of Delegates, visited the Student Chapter to give the talk '10 Habits of Highly Successful Oil Finders'. The talk was attended by 30 students.

Long-time member, Yusak Setiawan, paid a visit to two schools as a Visiting Geoscientist. The topic presented to 60 Geology and Geophysics students was : 'Oil and Gas Deep Water Exploration to Support National Energy Security'.
