The establishment of shale-gas play risk workflow and the major geologic risks for the lower Cambrian shale-gas play on the Yangtze platform are discussed in this paper. Extremely high thermal maturities and poor hydrocarbon retention are the key geologic risks of this shale-gas play.

Sandstone samples from deep-water gravity-flow deposits were examined to understand reservoir properties and diagenesis of deep-water gravity-flow sandstone reservoirs in the Dongying sag, to reveal the source of quartz overgrowths in the sandstones, and to evaluate the impacts of diagenetic processes on reservoir quality.
